It is virtually proportional to what a real court is. It has similar features to that of a real one, like the free throw lines, the center circle and three point lines, but only smaller. It can come hanged on the wall, or portable and tiny so that the coach can carry it around. It can be customized with the team’s logo, team color, or even a little space for side notes.
How do They Use it?
When planning for the strategies of a game using a basketball court layout, the coach makes a representation of the offensive players and strategies first. He does it by drawing a small letter “O” in the places where he wants the offensive players to position. And since there can only be five players from each time at a time, the coach also draws the four other corresponding players. When doing this, the coach also draws an “X” to represent the opposing team’s defensive players. These are typically drawn near the offensive players since what you can normally see on the court is a player guarding another one on one. After the offensive tactics are discussed, the defensive strategy can now be opened up on the basketball court diagram. The same letters are used to represent an offensive player in a defensive strategy planning as on the offensive one.
How Important Is It?
A basketball court diagram, especially the portable ones are very useful during time-outs and half-times, during times of a sudden change in the strategy. This can also help the coach in dealing with and pointing out errors in how each player plays. It allows for these problems to be addressed immediately and the solutions communicated effectively so as to optimize a very dynamic strategy. It will also be of advantage when the team is playing on a foreign court and is not familiar with it. Aside from that, in using a diagram of a basketball court, you must also remember that each level has a different size. So make sure that your basketball court diagram is the right and proportional one. Also, it can keep a record of the last basketball strategies that you have utilized. When you look back at it, you will be able to easily point out you mistakes and adjust your next game play.
